Government support for switching from oil or LPG to a heat pump has increased. If you currently heat your home with an oil-fired or LPG system, there is now an even bigger incentive to consider making the switch to renewable heating.
From 21 July 2026, the Government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant increased to £9,000 for eligible properties replacing an existing oil or LPG heating system with an air-to-water or ground source heat pump. The increased grant is available until 31 March 2027, subject to the scheme's eligibility requirements and available funding.
What does the £9,000 grant mean for you?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is designed to help reduce the upfront cost of installing a heat pump. For eligible properties, it provides £9,000 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump when replacing an existing oil or LPG heating system.
To qualify, the property must be off the mains gas grid and the existing heating system must be fuelled by oil or LPG, and the grant is available from 21 July 2026 until 31 March 2027. The full £9,000 grant is deducted from the cost of the installation, meaning you do not have to pay the grant amount upfront and wait to receive it back.
