Great news — from 1 February 2024, homeowners can enjoy 0% VAT on retrofitted battery storage.
Previously, if you wanted to add batteries to your solar panel system, you had to pay 20% VAT. After much lobbying from the UK solar and storage industry, that day has finally come: you can now have battery storage fitted to your existing solar array, supplied and installed at 0% VAT.
As batteries still represent a sizeable investment, having to pay 20% VAT often resulted in large payments of hundreds — even over £1,000. Fortunately the law has changed, and you can now proceed with retrofitted battery storage at a much lower cost.
If you don't yet have solar panels, you can still get both solar and battery storage installed at the same time, all at 0% VAT as before.
